This is Glee... in college. I won't say more on that subject.
Forget about the story - it's typical.
Forget about the song choices - it's average, and it seems they blindly picked songs from the Billboard 100 or whatever you call it. Okay, they added some 80's flavor (which I love), so, good move!
Forget about the performances - because they are, again, average at best. Although that last perfomance of The Bellas entertained me a lot.
But, I kinda liked the movie.
Maybe it's because I wasn't expecting much before pressing PLAY. But seriously,
Fat Amy is hilarious! If this didn't make you laugh, well, I should remind you that being grumpy and too serious will shorten your life span, not to mention , it will emphasize your wrinkles.
It's a movie that's meant to amuse and entertain, and it worked for me. Surprisingly, I found myself laughing consistently all throughout the movie, thanks to Rebel Wilson as Fat Amy (or should I say Fat Patricia) and the two awesome commentators John Michael Higgins as John Smith, and Elizabeth Banks as Gail Abernathy-McKadden for their absurdly funny, tongue-in-cheek "commentating."
Be warned though, there are a few meaty projectile vomiting scenes in this movie, and even though it was done in excess, the cast made it work. I just love seeing their reactions.
I'm not sure about Anna Kendrick, but Brittany Snow & Rebel Wilson stole every scene they're in.
And the Riff-off is not bad at all.
My Rating: 3.5/5 - I rated it 3.5 because it entertained me. That's it.
